Additionally, youth clubs in the alliance will be allowed the unique privilege of incorporating the Timbers brand into their club name and wear a special adidas Timbers Alliance badge as part of the uniform. On the field, each alliance club will wear the same color jerseys ? red and white ? in recognition of the partnership with the Timbers.
?While a partner with the Timbers, the adidas Timbers Alliance clubs will continue to maintain their own identities and will continue to be leaders, both on and off the field, within their own communities,? said Smith.
?The United States has some of the best athletic talent in the world and it?s our goal to provide homegrown athletes with opportunities to play elite soccer,? said?Antonio Zea, director of soccer for adidas America. ?With our recent extension of the Major League Soccer contract, we have put the importance of youth development at a premium and are excited about helping create youth club alliances with local MLS clubs. Each of the three youth clubs in the adidas Timbers Alliance have strong relationships with their respective park districts, namely Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District (THPRD), City of Gresham Parks and Regional Recreation, North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District and Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation, and are valued members of their respective communities.
The Timbers Academy will commence this fall, with teams competing in the U-16 and U-18 age brackets of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Timbers Academy teams will compete in the Northwest Division against other elite youth teams in the region, including academy teams from MLS clubs Seattle Sounders FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The teams will also be a part of the annual Generation adidas Cup, facing off against academy teams from across MLS.
Currently, the Timbers have established six Regional Training Centers, in partnership with Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) and Oregon?s Olympic Development Program (ODP), providing elite training and competitive opportunities for boys throughout the state at various age groups.
Youth players from across the Timbers development territory, not just affiliated with an adidas Timbers Alliance club, will have the opportunity to try out for an Timbers Academy team or a place in one of the Regional Training Centers in late summer or early fall.
Additionally, the Timbers have future plans to form an elite girls division as part of the Oregon?s ODP program and the club?s academy structure.

After one of the most famous elimination breakdowns in reality singing competition history, "X Factor" finalist Rachel Crow has bounced back in a major way. The curly-haired cutie who charmed America during her run on the first American season of the Simon Cowell-created show has not only landed a record deal, but she's also prepping her TV series debut.
Though she went out in fifth place on "Factor," Crow has become the sixth top finisher from the show to land a recording contract, following in the footsteps of $5 million winner Melanie Amaro, Chris Rene, Astro, Marcus Canty and runner-up Josh Krajcik.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crow has signed a talent deal with Nickelodeon (which, like MTV, is owned by Viacom Inc.) that will have her starring in her own as-yet-unnamed musical comedy series pilot. She's also signed a recording deal with Columbia Records. "It's been amazing," she told the Reporter about her post "Factor" ride. "A couple days after the elimination I just found myself sitting home asking myself, 'What am I going to do now?' And I never would've thought that this is what I was going do now. So, it's pretty amazing. I'm very thankful and I feel very blessed to have all this."
In addition to the Nickelodeon pilot, Crow has also been given a recurring role on the network's new series, "Fred: The show," which stars Lucas Cruikshank. She's already begun filming scenes as the character Starr, described as "an eccentric girl who acts and sings and, as her name indicates, wants to be famous." She's slated to appear in at least five episodes that will air in the spring.
Crow plans to begin recording her debut album later this year. In the meantime, the singer said she's just overjoyed to be on the same label as such major stars as Beyoncé, Adele and Celine Dion.
"Columbia was awesome for me. This is the top, which is really cool," Crow said. "Beyonce and Adele. And I'm in the same family as them, which is really awesome." She promised that he disc would be "spunky" and that "it's just gonna be me."

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) ? The superintendent of the West Virginia coal mine where an explosion killed 29 men was charged Wednesday with conspiracy to defraud the federal government, becoming the highest-ranking employee to face criminal prosecution in an investigation that appeared to be moving steadily up the corporate ladder.
Former Upper Big Branch mine boss Gary May, 43, of Bloomingrose, W.Va., is named in a federal information, a document that signals a defendant is cooperating with prosecutors. He is the second employee of Massey Energy, the company that owned the mine at the time of the 2010 tragedy, to face prosecution.
Reached at his home Wednesday morning, May declined comment. A conviction on the federal fraud charge could result in fines and up to five years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said his investigation of the worst U.S. mine disaster in four decades is "absolutely not" finished, signaling that officials are now exploring possible criminal charges against even higher-level executives of the company. Goodwin did not immediately comment further.
Although other mine disasters have led to criminal charges, they've typically targeted low-ranking employees and have largely been misdemeanor offenses.
"Usually, they get the mine foreman because that's the person that signs the books," said Gary Quarles, whose son Gary Wayne died in the explosion. Superintendents are usually shielded, he added.
But Quarles said the charge announced Wednesday suggest prosecutors are looking at May's bosses, too.
"It's about time," he said. "It's a good start."
Last week, Goodwin urged a federal judge in Beckley to make an example of the only other person charged so far, former security chief Hughie Elbert Stover. Goodwin is demanding the maximum possible sentence of 25 years in prison for actions he says contributed to the April 2010 disaster near Montcoal.
Stover is to be sentenced Feb. 29 for lying to federal investigators and attempting to destroy documents.
May began working at Upper Big Branch in February 2008 as a mine foreman and was promoted in October 2009 to superintendent. He held that post, overseeing three room-and-pillar mining sections and a longwall operation, until the day the mine exploded on April 5, 2010.
The information filed in U.S. District Court in Beckley accuses May of conspiring with others to conceal many dangers in the mine through an elaborate scheme that included code words to alert miners underground when inspectors were on the property, the deliberate alteration of approved ventilation plans and the deliberate disabling of a methane gas monitor on the continuous mining machine.
May allegedly ordered the wiring to be altered in February 2010 so the automatic shut-off mechanism was disabled, allowing the machine to function for several hours without a methane monitor.
Other employees of the mine have told investigators there was never enough fresh air to sweep out the highly explosive methane and coal dust that regularly accumulated ? the fuel that three separate investigations have concluded powered the chain-reaction blast.
The information also says that when May knew the Mine Safety and Health Administration was about to sample the level of breathable coal dust in a section of the mine, he surreptitiously redirected additional air to that area to obscure the typical conditions.
May is also accused of both falsifying safety inspection books and ordering someone not named in the information to leave out reports of deep water that would have made a section of the mine unsafe.
Clay Mullins worked at Upper Big Branch and lost his brother Rex in the blast, but didn't cross paths with May.
"It's what we wanted. All the families, it's what they want," he said of the charge against the superintendent. "But I want to see some other names. ... There were a lot of people involved in this, and I just want to see them be punished for the crimes.
"If they're innocent, then I want them to be found innocent," Mullins said. "But if they're guilty, I want them to face the maximum penalty of law."
The information says Massey subsidiary Performance Coal Co. and its managers routinely violated a host of federal mine-safety laws for fear that violations would cut into production time.
Had MSHA detected the concealed conditions, it would have resulted in temporary shutdowns and fines. That also could have moved Massey closer to being designated a pattern violator, which would have subjected it to even more scrutiny.
Reports about the explosion have already been released by MSHA, the United Mine Workers of America and an independent panel appointed by the former governor. The fourth and final report, by the state Office of Miners' Health Safety and Training, is being released Thursday.
The first three concluded that Virginia-based Massey Energy ? which has since been bought by Alpha Natural Resources ? allowed methane and coal dust to accumulate, and failed to properly maintain and repair the cutting equipment that eventually created the spark that fuel needed to explode.
Clogged and broken water sprayers then allowed what could have been a minor flare-up to become an epic blast that traveled seven miles of underground corridors, doubling back on itself and killing men instantly.
All three reports said the explosion could have been prevented or contained if the mine had been sufficiently dusted with pulverized limestone to render the coal dust inert. In the year before the Upper Big Branch blast, 70 ignitions occurred at U.S. coal mines, and none resulted in fatalities.
The UMWA report accused Massey of "industrial homicide" for the way it ran Upper Big Branch and listed 18 employees, including former Chief Executive Officer Don Blankenship, who invoked their right to avoid self-incrimination and refused to cooperate with investigators.
May is one of the 18 that the UMWA says should be compelled to publicly plead their Fifth Amendment rights or be held in contempt of court.

LOS ANGELES?-?US film and television writers gave their top two movie awards on Sunday to romance ?Midnight in Paris? and drama ?The Descendants? in the final Hollywood guild awards show before next week's Oscars. Writer-director Woody Allen won the Writers Guild of America award for best original screenplay with ?Midnight in Paris?, his tale of a young writer in Paris who faces questions of love. ?The Descendants?, which tells of a man who brings his family together in a time of grief while his cheating wife is hospitalised, earned the WGA trophy for best adapted screenplay for writers Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. The awards give both movies a lift in the race for the Oscars, the world's top film honours, because many guild members also belong to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that gives out the Oscars on February 26. But the guilds have recognised a variety of films this year, making them an inexact forecaster for Oscar success. Getting Married? Protect It! :: Estate Planning Matters
If you are getting married soon, CONGRATULATIONS! So many details? planning, family and friend invitations, caterers, details details details. But don?t forget some of the most enduring decisions you will make BEFORE you tie the knot! Protecting your new family with sound planning and decisions can literally prevent divorce down the road.
With the number one reason for divorce being financial conflict, you?ll want to make sure that you have a plan for handling these issues BEFORE you take the leap to becoming husband and wife. Everything flowers, romance, spontaneous hugs and kisses makes the natural progression to real life issues like bills, wills, financial planning, children, in-laws and division of responsibility sometimes taking precedence in the relationship.
Settling these issues while you?re planning the wedding can save years of heartache and eventual divorce.
Let?s say you?re planning on buying a house. It looks good, it feels good when you walk inside (most people buy a house for purely emotional reasons), and it seems to fit what you envision your lifestyle being when you move in.
But don?t forget: Check for termites. How?s the plumbing? The electrical system?? The roof? Is it in a flood zone?? Does it have a clear title?
While it?s not very romantic to compare getting married to buying a new house, you are smart enough to know that you have to make sure it?s not going to fall apart or cost you more than you planned once you?ve made the commitment. With marriage, when you invest so heavily emotionally, financially, professionally, and socially, any edge you can have beforehand is going to greatly reduce the chances of divorce and disappointment.
I?m not encouraging you to plan for divorce, but I am saying it?s imperative that you plan NOT to be divorced.
Here are some conversations you will want to consider having before saying, ?I do.?
1. Make sure you both know exactly what your financial situation is now and what your prospects are for the future. Make a list of credit cards, loan balances, other debts and monthly bills you currently have and what will continue after the wedding. Share this list with each other, keeping detailed, permanent records of these items so that, in the future, if a dispute arises, you know exactly what your status was at the time you married. Include bank statements, credit card statements, information about life insurance, tax records, and everything that you will need to avoid disagreements in the future.? Generally, in community property states, spouses can be liable for each other?s debts.
2. Do you need a pre-nup?? In the past, requesting your intended to sign a pre-nup was sometimes akin to being received as, ?I don?t trust you.?? A pre-nup may be important in situations where one spouse comes into the marriage with substantially more assets or in second marriage situations.? You can fix what is considered separate property and community and decide in advance on such things as spousal support, taxes,and bills. Today, we know that in many marriages it?s just good business and is to protect both parties in case of divorce or lawsuits.
3? Make a list of all property you own that is not in already in a trust and decide how it?s to be ?distributed? after the wedding.? As unnecessary as you think it might be, discuss what will happen to property that is accumulated in the future. What if one of you inherits a substantial sum of money or property from a parent or family member??? Get it in writing beforehand if you do not want these future assets to become community property in a divorce.
2. Discuss life insurance, health insurance, and other related issues and determine if you are both in agreement as to what should be acceptable when you are a couple and what levels of coverage you both feel would be best for each of you.
3. Discuss your estate plan ? your Will or Trust. Do you have one now? Whether you do or not, discuss with your Personal Family Lawyer ? a will or trust that will go into effect once you have become a married couple.? Married couples have certain tax advantages that can be lost without the proper planning.? These things should not be filed away mentally as something you?ll take care of when you have kids or get close to retirement.? Do it now!
4. Discuss your taxes and how you will handle filing and tax liabilities for the future.
5. Discuss health and medical issues. Determine your current health status and decide for the future what you would want to happen should you become incapacitated ? will you want to remain on life support and receive nutrition and hydration??? There are so many things you need to decide before getting married.? Which flowers and what colors the attendants will wear should be accompanied by deciding some of the issues I?ve listed above.? And keep in mind, these are just a few topics to start a dialog allowing both of you to get married with your eyes wide open and avoid serious pitfalls in the future.
